Does anyone know what frequency they’ll be using/testing on? And is it definitely not TACN? Each antenna is secured to an 8' tall 6"x6" upright which supports the end of the roof over my deck (two different uprights, 16' apart). With this arrangement, I don't think I'll need guy lines to hold the masts upright, but I will need lines to keep them from whipping in the wind. Is it possible, or wise, to buy an actual handheld railroad radio for railfan use? Are they even sold to hobbyists? I would want a way to disable the PTT button because I wouldn't want to accidentally hit it and cause issues. I know the BNSF uses ICOM radios here in Iowa.
