I don't have the expertise or the time to set up a trunk recorder and run my computer continuously just to monitor it on my phone. I noticed that the Oakland simulcast has several "site neighbors" such as the Wayne County simulcast site. When I switch to Wayne simulcast, I never hear any traffic from the Oakland county system. Is it possible, or wise, to buy an actual handheld railroad radio for railfan use? Are they even sold to hobbyists? I would want a way to disable the PTT button because I wouldn't want to accidentally hit it and cause issues. I know the BNSF uses ICOM radios here in Iowa.
