Over the last few weeks of course all the usual traffic on these systems has dropped off but I would still hear the occasional DOC transport or DHS PD transmission on the old NJSP systems... But I am now hearing Troop A transmissions (on the Troop C system) which is a first - I assume this is just an unusual situation, but can anyone provide any insight? View article »

Is it possible, or wise, to buy an actual handheld railroad radio for railfan use? Are they even sold to hobbyists? I would want a way to disable the PTT button because I wouldn't want to accidentally hit it and cause issues. I know the BNSF uses ICOM radios here in Iowa. It has a list of all the DV stations and they all work great, but when I go to load FM stations from the app or the radio it doesn’t list any only pulls up DV stations.
