I tried to create a set of channel reflecting my usage, and I ended with a 88 channels list. I downloaded the radio setting, update the channel and wrote back to the radio. At this point, I realised that only 16 channels where visible on the radio, either moving with the arrow key or entering directly the channel number. I didn't understand why my old programmable scanner stopped working until my brother asked me to help him program his new scanner. I had never heard of a P25 system. So after looking into it, all of the surrounding towns police have switched to P25 systems. So my question is, how can you tell if it's encrypted? Turned it on last night when the tornadoes were happening and got nothing. Scans, but never has signal strength or data. I do receive the weather channel signal and occasionally Porter County fire, which are vhf. I have reformatted the SD card with Sentinel and reloaded database and favorites. According to multiple posts in various social media locations (and Signal 99 group), the city and communications center are actively turning on encryption across the county dispatch area, first for police, then for fire EMS, until all channels are encrypted.
