I’m not able to key a repeater that is only 10 miles away and I live in a hole and I have tried the magnetic mount and it’s not working, I was wondering if a gmrs jpole hung up under a ceiling light fixture work ? Is it possible, or wise, to buy an actual handheld railroad radio for railfan use? Are they even sold to hobbyists? I would want a way to disable the PTT button because I wouldn't want to accidentally hit it and cause issues. I know the BNSF uses ICOM radios here in Iowa.
